“Violent extremism is an umbrella term for movements, ideologies, or environments that do not accept the democratic order, and that privileges violence to achieve their ideological objectives. In Sweden, there are principally three violent extreme movements: the violent extreme right and white power environment; the violent extreme left autonomous environment; the violent Islamist extremist environment. Despite large ideological differences between the groups, they have a common trait: they do not recognize democratic principles and rules, which constitutes a threat to fundamental democratic values.” (The National Board of Health and Welfare)
