Post-Montage* and the Oppositional Gaze

“Two parameters are articulated here: the installation of images in the exhibition space, and the dialectics of reproduction and recording. It is precisely this articulation that defines the apparatuses elaborated by artists like Nauman, Dan Graham, or Pistoletto.” —– *In opposition to this dialectics of recording/reproducing, post-montage can here be defined as the practice of reproducing and arranging images in the digital and/or physical exhibition space, unconcerned with their original materiality, media specificity, and conditions of production.
